Following the huge success of last year, Cheshunt Swimming Club have been training hard and preparing for the Herts ASA County Championships. Cheshunt Swimming Club are proud to say that this year a record number of swimmers have qualified for the championships and between them will be competing in over 180 events! Head Coach Paul Wollaston commented “I am really pleased with the progress the swimmers have made. The record number of entries are down to the hard work and dedication shown by the swimmers. I can’t wait to see what the County Championships brings for the club!”

Last weekend the club and its swimmers had their first taste of what was to come when they attended the first session of the 2015 Hertfordshire County Championships which took place at The Venue, Borehamwood. Cheshunt Swimming Club had 4 swimmers competing in the distance events. Tegan Wollaston, Megan Pope & Alara Norton competing in the 800m and Callum Wollaston in the gruelling 1500m. First up was Megan Pope who started off strongly and by half way was beginning to move through the field, a strong second 400m saw her finish in 10:18.99, a 20 second PB. Alara was next up and again set a good pace in her heat. This was only her second ever race at 800m and she finished in a very respectable 10:21.70. Megan and Alara finished 8th & 9th respectively in the 13yrs age group. Next up was Tegan Wollaston who was seeded fastest, taking pole position, in the final heat. After 200m Tegan turned in 3rd position, a body length behind the leader. The next 200m saw her slowly claw back the lead, going on to win in a fantastic time of 9:13.51 becoming both Junior and Senior County Champion. This is an amazing achievement which not only demonstrates her ranking within the county but her outstanding hard work and dedication to the sport.

Last up was Callum Wollaston in the 1500m Freestyle (the longest event). He started off steadily turning in 6th place at 400m. From here onwards Callum showed endurance moving up through the field and finally finishing 3rd in his heat and 4th in the 13yrs age group, in a time of 18:18.51 a whole minute quicker than his entry time!
