The final weekend of the County Championships at The Venue in Borehamwood proved to be yet another success for all our swimmers.
In the first event, the girl’s 50m Butterfly, Alara Norton, Olivia Pawson, Millie Donovan and Tegan Wollaston all lowered their personal best times. Callum Wollaston continued with this theme and knocked 8 seconds off his 200m Butterfly with a time of 3.05.47 to finish 2nd in his age group. The 200m Freestyle saw the girls back in action. Emily Lush, Courtney Burke, Megan Pope and Emily South all lowered their entry times by 2 to 12 seconds.

Tegan Wollaston, Olivia Pawson and Millie Donovan showed their class in this event, as all of them achieved even faster regional times. Olivia and Tegan showed that they are the 2nd and 3rd quickest respectively over this distance in the County with silver and bronze medals.

The final event in the session was the boys 100m Individual Medley. Zane Batt continued his good form and Daniel Lush, Callum Wollaston, Wallace West and Lewis Pope all achieved new personal best times. The next session saw the boys in the pool again for the 50m Freestyle. Adam Bailey had his first race of the day and it proved to be an excellent event for him, as he took nearly one and a half seconds off his previo

us personal best time to finish in a time of 33.62. Zane continued to show that he is one of the best 9 yr olds in the County and came away with another silver medal. At the other end of the age range, Liam Nugent, aged 19, proved that he still has it by getting a Regional Qualifying time in this event.

The girl’s 50m Backstroke was next and it came along with another hatful of personal best times. Emily Lush won a bronze medal in the 10 yr old age group with Courtney Burke knocking almost 3 seconds off her swim in the 11 Yr old age group. The 400m Freestyle saw a clean sweep of PBs with Courtney Burke taking 14 seconds off hers and Megan Pope a very impressive 24 seconds off hers. The older girls continued to display their strength, with Tegan Wollaston only 0.29 of a second behind Olivia Pawson and both girls well inside the Regional Qualifying time. They yet again took 2nd and 3rd place in their age group. Millie Donovan showed her class in the 400m Freestyle by knocking 18 seconds off her PB to finish in 4.42.93 and joining the others as a Regional Qualifier.

The final session saw strong swims from Olivia Pawson, Emily South, Tegan Wollaston and Millie Donovan in the Medley Relay and not to be outdone, the boy’s team of Lewis Pope, Wallace West, Chris Armitage and Ryan Ranger all swam sub 30 second legs in the Freestyle Relay. In the girl’s 400m Individual Medley, Tegan Wollaston achieved another Regional Qualifying time and Millie Donovan finished 2nd in her age group with a really strong swim. Lewis Pope finished off the day with a gold medal and a regional qualifying time in the 200m Breaststroke with a time of 2.46.28.

On Sunday morning the boys led the way with the 400m Freestyle. Callum Wollaston again showed his all round strength by taking 14 seconds off his PB with a time of 5.10.87 which gave him a Regional Qualifying time and a bronze medal. In the girl’s 50m Breaststroke and the boy’s 50m Backstroke, every single Cheshunt swimmer lowered their PB and Callum Wollaston picked up yet another Bronze Medal!

In the final session of the Championships, all six girls achieved further PBs in the 100m Individual Medley and in the boy’s 100m Freestyle, Daniel Lush added another Regional Qualifying time to his list. Alara Norton was the pick of the girls when she won a well deserved silver medal in the 100m Breaststroke in the 11yrs old race, knocking almost 6 seconds off her PB finishing in a time of 1.31.63.

Overall, the 2013 County Championships was a resounding success for all of our Cheshunt swimmers.
