Last weekend saw the first full weekend of the County Championships at The Venue, Borehamwood. In action for Cheshunt were 22 of their 23 qualifiers. First up were the girls in the 100m Freestyle where Cheshunt had 9 competitors. Setting the tone of the weekend was Emily Lush (12yrs) with an excellent swim finishing in 1.08.93 which is a new personal best. Up next, also with a new pb, was Courtney Burke (13), 1.07.98, Alara Norton (13) also gained a new pb, 1.06.77, as did Emily South (14), 1.03.01. Finally in the 100 freestyle was Olivia Pawson (15) coming 4th in her age group and whose time of 1.01.91, was also a regional qualify time!
Following the girls success were the boys with the 50m Fly. All 5 boys had excellent swims with Taylor Coe (10), 40.44, Adam Bailey (14), 32.00, Callum Wollaston (13), 31.72, Daniel Lush (14), 30.51 & Lewis Pope (15), 30.17, all boys gained new personal best times and Callum his regional qualifying time!

 

The final event of the morning session was the girls 200m Breaststroke. Rosie Batt (10) claimed PB’s on her 50 & 100 split but just missed out on her final time of 3.53.49. Ela Norton (11), 3.36.67, and Chloe Berko-Boateng (12), 3.11.25, both had very strong swims and gained new personal bests with Chloe taking 4th place in the 12yr old age group. Whilst just outside her pb Alara Norton (13) swam a strong race claiming Cheshunt’s 2nd medal of the championships and a bronze in her age group with a time of 2.56.96.

 

Unfortunately, due to a water temperature problem the swimmers then had to wait until Sunday to continue the championships. Upon their return to the pool on Sunday the Cheshunt boys competed in the 50m breaststroke. Continuing the run of personals best times were Taylor Coe (10), 49.41, Aaron Pickard (10), 49.40, Daniel Lush (14), 35.95, and Lewis Pope (15), 34.54 with Lewis also finishing 4th in the 15yr old age group. It was the girls turn next, swimming the 100m backstroke with a whole host of personal bests from Emily Lush (12), 1.18.35, Courtney Burke (13), 1.16.23, Megan Pope (13), 1.14.20, Eleanor Turpin (13), 1.16.17 and Tegan Wollaston (15), 1.12.17. Olivia Pawson then swam a strong heat which then qualified her for the County final. A fantastic swim saw Olivia finish in 5th position in the open age group but she also picked up a Silver medal in the 15yr old age group with her time of 1.08.46.

 

This session ended with the boys 200m individual medley. Taylor Coe (10) continued the success he had had in previous events with yet another personal best, this time finishing 5th place in the 11yr old age group swimming a time of 3.13.73. Zane Batt (11), 3.00.94, Callum Wollaston (13), 2.34.19, Daniel Lush (14), 2.25.60, also swam personal bests with Callum and Daniel 5th place in their respective age groups.

 

In the final session of the weekend Courtney Burke, Megan Pope, Tegan Wollaston and Millie Donovan swam in the 100m Butterfly. An excellent swim from Courtney (13), 1.18.14, saw her take nearly two and a half seconds off of her previous best time! A great swim from Millie (16) saw her claim the bronze medal in the 16yr old age group.
